How it started: one friend, one ocean, no good answer

My friend lives on another continent. We decided to meet in 2027, somewhere fair for both of us. Finding that place turned out to be the hard part.

Two people, one ocean, and no obvious place in between.

Meeting old friends is always nice. But once you're grown-ups with jobs, a lot of stars have to align for it to happen. Even in the same city, or the same country, syncing the plans of two people is sometimes hard enough. Three to five people? Forget it. These meetings are almost never spontaneous.

I have a friend like that. He lives on another continent. We hadn't seen each other for a few years, and then he wrote:

"Let's meet in '27. I'm ready to fly to Europe."

Since I'm an enthusiastic person, I started looking right away. Something interesting, and more or less fair for both of us. And I ran into a wall: not a single product out there could give me a good answer to that question.

There's an ocean between North America and Europe, so maybe some island in the Atlantic, I thought. Sounds logical and simple. Except the flight connections are terrible.

The Atlantic islands looked perfect on the map. The flights disagreed.

From there on it was 200% guesswork. Pure random. Maybe "some city"? Then you start checking whether both of you can actually get there. And again. And again.

Pick a city, check both trips, repeat.

Somewhere along the way, in despair, I thought: I can't be the only person in the world floundering like this, trying to find something good that works for both.

So I started building it

That's where MeetEven comes from. You enter two home airports, and it shows the places you can both reach, with the one where the person with the longer trip travels the least at the top. Here's how it works.

And the meeting?

It's in 2027, so we still have time. We haven't picked the place yet. This time I'm not guessing. I'll tell you where we end up, and whether the app agreed with my gut.
